Reno is located about 13 miles east of the California border along Interstate
80, at elevation 4500ft in the high desert. In addition to the limitless
entertainment possibilities in the Reno resort casinos, the region also features
some of the best outdoor recreational activities in the nation.
World-class ski resorts at nearby Lake Tahoe offer summer mountain biking

Travel to the Reno Area
The Reno/Tahoe International Airport is served by 10
major airlines, including Alaska, Southwest and United. Ground transport to the
regions is provided by Greyhound Bus Lines and Amtrak.
University of Nevada, Reno
Opening in 1874 in Elko, Nevada,
the university moved to Reno in 1885 with two faculty and fifty students. It
is a Land Grant University, with an enrollment of approximately 12,500 in
ten schools and colleges. More than one-fourth of UNR students are pursuing
advanced degrees. The university conducts more than $70 million in research
grants and contracts each year. The campus is on a hill overlooking Reno,
located just north of I-80 on either side of Virginia Street, which is the
primary north-south thoroughfare of Reno. The features views of the city
itself, as well as the snow-capped mountains of the Sierra Nevada. Lake
Tahoe is just over those mountains, about a half-hour away.
The university is the oldest institution of seven in the University and
Community College System of Nevada (UCCSN). Others are the University of
Nevada, Las Vegas; the Desert Research Institute, Great Basin College,
Truckee Meadows Community College, Western Nevada Community College, and
