Mike Burton worked
some 36 years on the field in high school and small college
including nine state championship games, one national NAIA
championship and two semi-finals during that time. 2000 ended his
on-field career with being referee of the 3A State Championship
game. He has been active on the Washington Officials Association
Executive Board for many years and was also president of the
National Federation of Officials Association in 1998. Mike was
honored in 2000 as the NF Citation Award winner for officiating
excellence. He started the summer camp program for football
officials, evaluations of officials in the semi-finals and finals,
senior seminars for high school play-off officials, college
observer, state rulers interpreter for 20+ years and active as the
summer conference chairperson for WOA and Hall of Fame chairperson
for officials. In December, 2005 he was appointed Football
Commissioner for the Northwest Intercollegiate Football Officials
Association for NCAA Division II and III schools.
