Rhoads - ACC
Mr. Rhoads was named as the Atlantic Coast
Conference’s (ACC) Coordinator of Football Officiating in January, 2007 by ACC
Commissioner John Swofford. Mr. Rhoads, a member of the ACC officiating staff
for the last 30 years and a 26-year veteran of the FBI, has officiated over 260
college football games, including ten bowl games. Rhoads has served as President
of the Atlantic Coast Conference Football Officials Association, has received
the Joe E. Long Service to Officiating Award, and has been a recipient of the
Commissioner's Award from the Atlantic Coast Conference, given for overall
service to officiating by the league. In addition to his ACC duties, Mr. Rhoads
also coordinates football officiating for the US Military Academy, the US Naval
Academy, and the Big South Conference.
In addition to his conference affiliation, Rhoads was an Executive Board Member
and assisted in founding the National Association of Division One Football
Officials (NADFO) and was one of the officials selected to represent NADFO at
the annual NCAA Rules Committee meetings in past years.
Mr. Rhoads served as the Deputy Chief of
Police in Albemarle County, Charlottesville, VA after his retirement from the
FBI and most recently was employed in a private security/consulting firm in
northern Virginia. Mr. Rhoads, a University of Florida graduate, served in the
US Army in Vietnam in 1967-68. He also officiated ACC and NCAA lacrosse from
1973 to 1993.
